Honoring Team Excellence in Oncology Patient Navigation

December 2025 Vol 16, No 12

In oncology navigation, every success story is a collective one. Whether it’s the moment a patient begins to understand a complex treatment plan or the relief that comes when a care barrier is finally lifted, progress rarely happens in isolation. It’s born of shared effort; of professionals across disciplines working in harmony toward better patient outcomes and a more compassionate care experience.

That spirit of collaboration is what the Dr Harold Freeman One Team Award was created to celebrate. Launched this year by the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship (JONS), the award honors navigation teams that exemplify the very heart of Dr Freeman’s vision to close gaps in care through communication, compassion, and collective purpose. It recognizes innovation, integration, and the power of working as one.

As this inaugural year comes to a close, JONS is proud to recognize the very first recipients of the Dr Harold Freeman One Team Award.

This team carries forward the ideals Dr Freeman championed by transforming navigation into a sustainable, data-driven system that heals through presence, advocacy, and measurable progress. Their work demonstrates that when innovation meets empathy, barriers fall, access expands, and every patient moves closer to the dignity of equitable care.

An Encore for Team Excellence

In addition to the winning team, JONS proudly recognizes this year’s 3 runners-up, whose creativity, compassion, and collaboration also stood out among a competitive collection of submissions.

And because excellence in navigation extends far and wide, JONS celebrates several additional teams whose exceptional efforts earned their institutions distinction as this year’s honorable mentions.

Selecting among such inspiring submissions was no easy task. Yet, the message is clear: excellence in navigation is never achieved alone. The Dr Harold Freeman One Team Award celebrates the strength of working as one, where shared purpose, partnership, and compassion drive lasting impact for patients and professionals alike.

As we close this inaugural chapter, we’re already looking ahead to next year and the stories that will emerge in the second year of this award; stories of teamwork, creativity, and care that continue to honor Dr Freeman’s legacy and the heart of navigation itself.
