Dear Colleagues,

I am deeply honored to step into the role of Executive Director of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+). As we embark on this journey together, I am excited about the opportunity to advance the field of oncology navigation and to collaborate with our partners and communities to make a lasting impact.

Our organization, with over 9000 dedicated current and legacy members, is uniquely positioned to drive meaningful change. Our mission is to advance the role of patient navigation in cancer care across the care continuum by providing a network for collaboration, leadership, and development of best practices for the improvement of patient access to care, evidence-based cancer treatment, and quality of life.

In support of our mission, we will focus on several key areas:

  • Certification process: We will assess and refine the current certification process to ensure long-term success and relevance
  • Membership growth: Our goal is to increase and actively engage our membership base, encouraging more involvement and contribution
  • Health equity: We will continue our efforts and call to action to integrate navigation services into oncology care specifically for marginalized communities ensuring disparities are addressed
  • Partnerships and sponsorships: We will work to diversify and expand our partnerships and sponsorships, creating more opportunities for collaboration
  • Advocacy and reimbursement: With the recent Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services ruling for reimbursement of navigation services, we have a unique opportunity to advocate for expanded reimbursement and support for navigators through legislative efforts

As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, I am confident that by working together we can elevate AONN+, expand our impact, and create valuable resources for our members. Let’s continue to drive innovation, build strong relationships, and make a significant difference in the field of oncology navigation.

Thank you for your dedication and commitment. I look forward to working with each of you to achieve our goals and celebrate our successes.

Warm regards,
Candice Roth, MSN, RN, CENP
Executive Director
