Dear Navigators,

The landscape of cancer care has evolved tremendously over the past decade in every aspect: research targets, available treatments, management strategies, and even the makeup of the oncology multidisciplinary team have evolved to include our emerging role as nurse and patient navigators. As navigators, we recognize the importance of identifying and overcoming barriers to strengthen our team’s ability to deliver the best care to our oncology patients. This publication and our organization, the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+), provide the forum for oncology navigators to learn from each other, share their experiences, and grow in the pivotal role of guiding patients through the maze of their oncologic care.

As part of the effort to provide AONN+ members with tools for patients, our publisher launched a patient magazine 1 year ago called CONQUER: the patient voice. This magazine is disseminated by navigators in the hope of providing valuable information to patients and their family, friends, and caregivers. This magazine addresses the issues that patients, their family members, and caregivers face every day. We are delighted that CONQUER has celebrated its 1-year anniversary and hope it has proved valuable to your patients. We encourage you to pass the word along to your patients that this resource is available to them by visiting www.conquer-magazine.com. They can also complete the postcard on the cover and mail it to begin receiving future issues to their home address.

Now to tell you about this newest issue of JONS! In our effort to continue to provide support to you, our AONN+ members, you will find compelling and insightful information from “Basics of Patient Navigation” to “Development and Evaluation of a Technology-Enhanced Interdisciplinary Navigation Program for Low-Income Breast Cancer Patients.” We are also pleased to feature an offering from our Evidence into Practice Committee: “Continuum of Care and Care Transitions,” complete with an assessment tool for your navigation program. And in the coming issues, I would love to see your name, and those of your team members, on an article that you have authored that describes the wonderful work you are doing in the field of navigation and/or survivorship!

As always, thank you for your loyal readership.

Sincerely,

Lillie Digital Signature
