Dr Burhansstipanov emphasized the importance of coordination between NPNs and nurse navigators. “Our navigators have worked beautifully with nurse navigators,” she said at the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators 7th Annual Navigation & Survivorship Conference.
The authors present their findings from a patient satisfaction study conducted 1 year after the establishment of an oncology nurse navigation program to collect patient feedback and discover opportunities for improvements.

The objective of this project is to present a nationwide picture of the ACS navigation program, using newly standardized reporting.
The CNA will allow the LSCVAMC to identify barriers to cancer care and potential areas for improvement to ensure continuous quality improvement and access for our veterans with cancer.
The Commission on Cancer (CoC) is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. The AONN+ is a CoC member organization.
With patient navigation now established as a valuable component of cancer care, most providers understand what “navigation” means, but fresh insights such as those provided by a veteran of navigation, Lillie D. Shockney, RN, BS, MAS, are welcomed.
At the recent AONN+ regional meeting, Sharon Gentry, RN, MSN, CBCN, CBEC, spoke about the ability of oncology nurse navigators to advance population health in a variety of ways and create value in the process.
Through assessment, shared decision-making, and identifying and coordinating resources, patient navigators can make care more accessible and may increase adherence to screening and timely diagnostic follow-up care and cancer treatment.
This issue of JONS also comprises a wealth of learning guides dedicated to providing patient navigators with information about the core competencies of navigation.
