Letters from Lillie

In this issue of the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship (JONS), we are proud to present the evidence-based research abstracts that have been accepted to the Eighth Annual Navigation & Survivorship Conference of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+).
To honor our connection to the field of breast cancer, we dedicate a special annual edition of JONS to breast cancer and the strides being made in the treatment of this disease as part of our Best Practices series.
On behalf of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) leadership council and the conference faculty, I invite you to invest in your navigation career by attending the conference designed especially for you.
Our enthusiasm for the November 16-19 Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) Eighth Annual Conference is mounting!
In this issue, we present original research as well as coverage from recent oncology meetings. On the navigation front, we feature articles from our own Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) West Coast Regional Meeting.
One of the many responsibilities of a navigator is to facilitate patient education—it is therefore imperative that we educate ourselves on new treatments, distill the information into lay terms, and use that information to effectively educate our patients.
I recently saw a definition of the word “navigate” that read: to plan and direct the route or course of a ship, aircraft, or other form of transportation, especially by using instruments or maps.
I’ve just returned from our West Coast Regional Meeting, where attendees enjoyed a robust agenda featuring speakers from across the oncology community. I cannot help but feel re-energized in our mission to advance the cause of navigation!
On behalf of all of us at AONN+, I am extremely proud to present the set of universal, research-supported metrics established by our expert team of seasoned navigators on the AONN+ Standardized Metrics Task Force!
We’re gearing up for our first meeting of 2017! The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) is venturing out west to Phoenix, AZ, this month to host our West Coast Regional Meeting.
